Women in Governance Network inaugurates Ekwusigo Chapter
WOMEN in Governance Network (IWIG-N) known as IDIKACHO, recently had official inauguration and presentation of award in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Speaking during the inauguration, the Transition Committee Chairman, Ekwusigo Local Government, Ikenna Ofodeme, thanked the women group for coming together to form the group.
Ofodeme, who was represented by the Deputy Chairman, Ekwusigo Local Government, said the best thing parents should do was to train female children at the university level so that they would be useful at home and society at large.
He advised parents to keep a watchful eyes over their children in the way of dressing and the kind of friends they habour, saying that the level of indecent dressing among the girls is disgusting, that they expose their bodies in public places in the name of fashion.
Ofodeme said the practice did not conform to the norms and values of the society and told parents not to tolerate aberant dressing among their children but always promote the culture of decent dressing among their children.
Former Governor of Anambra State, Dame Virgy Etiaba, thanked the initiator of IDIKACHO, Prof. Mercy Anibgogu who she described as a hardworking woman.
She advised the women to always tolerate one another in love and be a good examples to their homes and society and avoid gossip and pride for the group to stand, saying with love and humility, they will go far.
“Always respect your husbands, be a good example to your children as Christ is the head of every family.”
Also speaking, the Director of IDIKACHO, Mercy Anigbogu, enjoined the women to be honest and have one voice and work in harmony, support fellow women who are vyeing for one position or another in government and be a God fearing people.
In her welcome address, coordinator, IDIKACHO Ekwusigo, Kate Okafor, said I- WIG-N was aimed at changing policies, cultural practices, attitude and behaviors that negatively affect women and girls in the community, local, state and national development.
She added that I- WIG-N Ekwusigo have made impact in the lives of rural women adding that they are working towards achieving summer school for 2018 and 2019 long vacation.
Coordinator, Awka South IDIKACHO, Princess Oby Orji , explained that the group is an initiative of the Justice Development and Peace Commission (JDPC), under the ‘Voice to the People’ project, supported by Christian Aid Nigeria with funding from U.K, Department for International Development (DFID), to champion the course of giving a voice to the voiceless, to the vulnerable and women in the community for sustainable development.
High point of the occasion were presentation of award to former Governor, Virgy Etiaba, Director Unique Development Foundation for Women, Eucharia Adukwulu, Transition Committee Chairman Ekwusigo, Ikenna Ofodeme, His Royal Majesty Lawrence Okonkwo among others and drama presentation by Idikacho Ekwusigo chapter.
