Osun rerun: Why Omisore chose APC

Only God can stop Adeleke’s victory – PDP My life in danger – Adeleke
Aregbesola declares today work-free

MORE facts have continued to emerge over why the candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the September 22 Osun governorship election, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has pitched his tent with All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the rerun slated for today.
His choice to work for APC’s Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola has been traced to intense lobbying that came from several APC camps to woo Omisore to the party’s side, with Ekiti State Governor-elect, Segun Fayemi playing the last card that finally got Omisore, despite similar overtures from PDP elements.
It was also gathered that an undisclosed previous political alliance with Gov. Rauf Aregbesola also played a crucial role in wining Omisore over to APC.
But PDP has said that only God can decide its candidate, Ademola Adeleke’s fate, adding that victory is his own in today’s rerun election.
PDP’s National Vice Chairman (South South) Eddy Olafeso dropped this hint yesterday at a press conference in Abuja, insisting that the party was hoping on God, not individuals.
“For us, we are very confident that victory will be ours tomorrow. We already won anyway. We met with the leaders but victory is in the hands of God… even if people play around, God will not play around. He’ll determine the outcome of the election,” Olafeso said.
Meanwhile, the governorship candidate of PDP in Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has written to the international community alleging threat to his life and his supporters ahead of today’s supplementary governorship.
Adeleke made this allegation in a statement made available to newsmen in Osogbo yesterday by Spokesperson of Adeleke Campaign Organisation, Rasheed Olawale.
According to him, both the United Nations, European Union, United States and several diplomatic missions in Nigeria have received a copy of the letter, listing many alleged infractions in the last Saturday polls, the refusal of INEC to declare Adeleke the winner in line with the constitution, the alleged killing and maiming of his supporters, the arrest of key leaders on trumped-up charges and the manipulations of the electoral process.
Similarly, Gov Rauf Aregbesola has declared today work-free for residents of Osun State to ensure that the electorate in areas where re-run gubernatorial election will take place voted fully.
It will be recalled that Osun State gubernatorial election was declared inconclusive by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) citing provisions of the electoral guidelines.
