Real Madrid not missing Ronaldo
REAL Madrid seems to have gotten over Ronaldo, as goals from Isco, Bale and Mariano led to a 3-0 win against Roma in their Champions League Group G opener at the Camp Nou on yesterday.
Three-time defending champions, Real were rampant throughout the first half and finally scored a deserved opener just before half-time when Isco curled in his free kick after drawing a foul from Daniele De Rossi just outside the Roma area.
Roma saw their best chance of the opening hour saved just after the break when Keylor Navas went high and to his left to palm away Cengiz Under’s swerving shot on 49 minutes.
Soon after Madrid would have their second when Gareth Bale finished off a blistering counter-attack after Modric played him in behind the Roma defence with an incisive through ball to the Wales international.
Asensio came on for Bale just after the hour mark and almost had Real’s third in the 79th minute only to see Olsen save his close-range shot.
And Mariano, who spent last season with Lyon, fired in Real’s third and his first career Champions League goal with an unstoppable right-footed shot from outside the area.
