THE Deputy Transition Committee Chairman for Awka South Local Government Area, Chief Obiorah Okafor has called on the citizenry to embrace agriculture to enhance their socio-economic profile.
Chief Okafor who made the call at the Awka South Local Government Headquarters in Amawbia, highlighted the imperatives of farming which some developing countries have keyed into.
The deputy council boss called for the promotion of the new yam festival in all communities in Igboland to enhance the cultural heritage of the Igbo.
He called for the emulation of the Nene community in Anacha LGA, which rewarded best performing farmers with vehicles.
Chief Okafor who used the occasion of this year’s “Iwa Ji” festival of the Mbaukwu community, felicitated with its traditional ruler Igwe Peter Anugwu and wished that the Mbaukwu community will grow from strength to strength.
