CHAIRMAN of Capital Oil and Gas Industries Ltd., Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, has reached an understanding with Chinese and Korean Governments for establishment of a university in Nnewi, South East Nigeria, as part of efforts to ensure human capital expansion and development.
In the agreement reached on Saturday at Nnewi, the founder of the university, Ubah, said the partners would commit 20 Million Dollars for the establishment of the institution, while the FC Ifeanyi Ubah Stadium would be staked as collateral.
He said the institution, to be called Ifeanyi Ubah University (IUU), would develop, build, and incorporate multidisciplinary programmes in innovative fields that will form leaders, professionals, and scholars of competence, conscience, and compassion as agents of positive change to bring about a more just, fair and prosperous society; adding that the institution would be the first in Nigeria to have Faculty of Sports as part of efforts to ensure overall human development.
“Apart from Law, Mass Communication, Engineering and a host of other major disciplines, IUU will also be graduating students in sports areas like Sports Science and Health Education, Sports Coaching and Development, Sports Business Management as well as Exercise and Fitness Management”, he added.
In his own remarks, one of the partners, Noh Kyu-Duk, Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, said his country reposed full trust in Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, because “he is a resolute entrepreneur, an incisive technocrat, times tested philanthropist, and a steadfast sports promoter, who sits on the board of many flourishing companies”.
According to him, the university project will be executed in six phases: phase one, according to him will include faculties of Management, Social Sciences, Pure and Applied Sciences and Sports; and will be completed in 2020; phase two, Faculty of Law and Legal Studies will be completed in 2022; phase three, Environmental Sciences, will be completed in 2024; phase four, Faculty of Engineering, will be completed also in 2024; phase five, Basic Medical Sciences, will be completed in 2026; while phase six, Clinical and Health Sciences, will be completed in 2028.
He said that IUU will create a research-based academic community that will form the entire person to uphold sound values and engage global challenges.
