Why super eagles defeated Seychelles – Gernot Rohr



SUPER eagles coach Gernot Rohr has explained why his sidr the super eagles defeated Seychelles 3-0 in Saturdays African cup of nation’s qualifiers.
According to Rohr his side defeated Seychelles because his players never underestimated their hosts. He, however, said that the three time African champions are very satisfied with the result. “we are very satisfied with the result as the important thing was to win three points.”
“it was not easy as our opponents were very combative and aggressive. We started well through in the second half we found it hard playing against the wind our opponents also worked hard and we never underestimated them’”
“the team had taken the good spirit from then worldcup into a difficult match due to their agreessive” play and problems with the synthetic pitch.
Gernot Rohr’s men pick up their first win of the qualifying series having lost 2-0 to south Africa in uyo three months ago. Nigeria super eagles played their first competitive match since being eliminated from the world cup at the group stages.

The Seychollois tried to distort the flow of the game with some ambitious attacking forays after the restart, but rohr’s men retook dominance and they got a third from a penalty spot. Ighalo sent the stocky shot stopper the wrong way after Kalu was brought down.
The buildup of the game had seen Gernot Rohr deal with several disappointments with team captain john Mlikel Obi and some key players ruled out through injury concerns.
The German handler had to make four changes to the team that started against Argentina in their last outing, at the world cup in Russia.
Awaziem one of the goal scorers came in as a surprise pick for the right-back spot, Ogenyi Onazi partnered Wilfred ndidi at the base of the midfield, Bordeaux new signining Kalu has handed his international debut and Ighalo was restored to lead the front lines.
From the blast of the whistle the super eagles , expectedly , directed proceedings with the east African minnows set deep blocks. These teo opponents in group e have never played against each other before. (the least populated country in Africa 94, 228)
The 32nd edition of African cup of nation (AFCON) is scheduled to be hosted by Cameroon in june and july 2019 as agreed in caf executive meeting on 20th july, 2017. The tournament is expected to host 24 teams unlike before when 16 teams fight for a place on the qualified list.
The fight for a slot on the 24 teams lists through qualification games by forty eight (48) except Chad which was banned after withdrawing from the competition in 2017.
