Anambra’ll be hot for impostor monarchs – CP Umar

ANAMBRA State will soon be made too hot for those illegally parading themselves as monarchs, without having been selected or coronated by their towns and recognised by the government under the relevant chieftaincy laws, as police are working round the clock on a special operation to flush out the impostors.
Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Garba Umar, gave the warning while fielding questions from newsmen when he led a delegation of security chiefs on a courtesy call at the palace of Eze Uzu II of Awka Kingdom in Awka-South Local Government Area, His Majesty (Obi) Dr. Gibson Nwosu on Tuesday, adding that there will be no hiding place or safe haven for anyone who may choose to dare the command.
According to him, the operation which would launch a special manhunt for the impostors was in furtherance of the command’s resolve to continuously partner the traditional institution in the state to promote peace and prevent breakdown of law and order, noting that allowing disgruntled elements to desecrate royal stools, by laying false claims to the throne, was another way through which bad eggs foment trouble in many communities.
He therefore called on those who go about posing as royal fathers when they had no such backing from their communities or the state government to desist from the act or get ready to face the music.
“We’ve continued to receive information from members of the public concerning activities of people who illegally parade themselves as traditional rulers in some parts of the state. We are very much aware that some criminal elements hide under such guise to perpetrate heinous activities in their communities, but we won’t fold our arms and watch them have field day. It is in their own interest to desist from this act, because very soon Anambra will be too hot for them.
We are set with a special operation that will begin with a manhunt for the impostors, and by time the command is ready, there will be no hiding place for anyone who may wish to dare us,” he said.
Speaking while receiving the delegation, Obi Gibson Nwosu commended Amanbra Police command for its doggedness in crime fighting throughout the state, especially by nipping many kidnap attempts in the bud as well as decisively tracking down cultism, thereby making Anambra the safest state in the country.
In his own welcome remarks on behalf of other members of Eze Uzu cabinet, Traditional Prime Minister of Awka, Chief Benjamin Okoye thanked CP Umar and his entourage for their visit and good works, adding that the community is always ready to collaborate with security agencies.
Speaking on the recent notice of sit-at-home protest by members of Independent Peoples of Biafra (IPoB), CP Umar further warned that forcing members of the public to stay away from their lawful businesses under by any person or group tantamount to disturbing public peace, adding that the command will mobilise sufficient force to protect innocent citizens from molestation.
Security bigwigs on Umar’s entourage was Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Mike Okoli, State Commander of Anti-Cult Squad (SPACS) Bassey Okon, Mobile Police Commander in Awka Area, John Paul, and his counterpart at Onitsha, Lawal Turkur, among others.
