IT WAS all joy in Anambra State Ministry of Social Welfare, Children and Women Affairs’ Mentally Challenged Peoples’ Home on Monday as some of their urgent needs were met by a philanthropist and communist leader, Dom Okafor.
Okafor, Rotarian and Mechanical  Engineer from Obiuno Igbo-ukwu, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, who in April,  spared no expenses and donated a lot if items needed critically at the centre to the admiration of the inmates and management when he  celebrated his 51th birthday  again fetes the inmates .
The inmates, on this his second visit sang a variety of songs in praise to God for such philanthropy and care demonstrated by Okafor.
Among the items donated were toiletries, food items and other materials which the center urgently needed to cater for the inmates who are mostly mentally challenged and sick people.
During the presentation, Okafor, the CEO of Jocaro Nig Ltd, praised the Wife of the governor of Anambra State, Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano (Osodieme), for her innovation and efforts in founding the place, and for her generosity to the good people of Anambra State as demonstrated during her recent tour of all the local governments in the state where she shared various items to the needy.
The frontline politician, who is aspiring to represent  Aguata Federal Constituency  in the Federal House of Representatives appreciated the wife of the governor for founding CAFÉ, which has provided a lot of conveniences and empowerment to the Women of Anambra State like toilets at various markets,  houses for widows and the indigent people across Anambra State, connecting lost people back to their families and settling hospital bills for hundreds of women and children who could not do so after deliveries in hospitals, or those who have suffered from one kind of illness or another, amounting to millions of Naira.
As if that was not enough, Okafor, within the week, shocked the Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Governor of Anambra State on Disability Matters, Hon Bertrand Ezewuzie, when he suddenly announced a donation of a giant generator to him.
Okafor had gone to make a cash donation, bags of toiletries and other items to the SSA to make his work pleasant when suddenly, there was a power outage.
Engr Okafor, being a compassionate man as a Rotarian of note, could not bear the site of seeing everyone sweating profusely and trying to make do with a rechargeable lantern and candles to get around.
This was reported to have prompted him to immediately order for the giant generator which was brought to the office of the SSA.

This gesture immediately set the entire place agog with excitement and received a huge applause from people with disabilities who thronged the office.
Okafor also assured the SSA that he will always come to see how they are doing and urged him to always seek his assistance in any time of need.
In a related development, Engr Okafor has donated a 30 KVA generator to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Party Secretariat at Awka and supported the party with cash donations, among other gifts.
The House of Representatives Aspirant for Aguata Federal Constituency made the donations when he visited the party secretariat to formally declare his desire to represent the people of Aguata Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives before the State Working Committee
In his contributions during the event, a front line political stakeholder from Aguata Local Government, and Director of Publicity, Aguata Stakeholders Consultative Assembly, Chief Franklin Onyeneke, extolled the excellent pedigree of Engr Okafor whom he dubbed “the heartbeat” of Aguata Federal Constituency.
Rtn Onyeneke stated that “all those contesting against Dom Okafor have become what I may call “over stayed visitors” who now take Ndi Aguata for granted.

They are all good people, no doubt, but Aguata needs a ‘Breath Of Fresh Air’ and it will do the party enough good to look at him and do all that is necessary to ensure he gets the APGA ticket. We in Aguata will appreciate your magnanimity towards him, and on our part, we will do the needful”.
Another Stakeholder and one of the early financiers of APGA since formation in 2002, Chief Finbars Ofordum, lamented the abandonment of the people by those he financed into offices when APGA was building up, and thus, endorsed Engr Dom Okafor, contending that he has been serving the community, the church and his people, and have contributed immensely in re-energising the APGA family in Aguata Local Government.
“I have suffered tremendously for the growth of APGA in Anambra, I have invested heavily financially, I have sponsored many candidates who have won elections, including the current members of Anambra House of Assembly for Aguata 1 & 2 Constituencies. I have been kidnapped, paid out millions in ransom, but have not benefitted anything from APGA.
Not that I wanted anything from them; but now, I demand one thing from APGA, Support Engr Dom Okafor to emerge APGA candidate and that will make us happy and excited,”, Chief Ofordum  said.

Engr Dom has also donated a Generator to Igboukwu Ward 1 office of APGA, just the way he did to the newly established Divisional Police Post at Igboukwu”.
In his remarks, the state chairman of the party, Sir Norbert Obi, praised the efforts of Dom Okafor and his contributions and efforts in energizing the party in Aguata, and assured him of a level playing ground during the party primaries.
