ROTARY Club of Ekulu, Enugu State, at the installation of her 37th president, Rotarian Awele Linda Nzeeakor, recently, honoured Anambra State Commissioner for information and Public Enlightenment, C.Don Adinuba with a vocational Service Award.
Speaking at the event, Adinuba, who was represented by former member of Anambra State House of Assembly, Tony One week Monago, expressed appreciation over the award and urged members of the club not to relent in offering selfless humanitarian services to the society.
Adinuba, who is internationally recognized as a foremost journalist and communication strategist, with extensive publications in the African, European and American media, observed that Rotary has contributed immensely to the promotion of peace and unity among nations.
In her remarks, the new president of the club, Rotarian Nzeakor, identified some of her proposed projects, assuring that the club will continue her medical and education program in conjunction with the Medical Women Association in breast cancer,cervical cancer, dental and oral hygiene with sickle cell awareness, and highlighted basic literacy and education, material and child health, water and sanitation, economic and community development, including peace and conflict prevention/resolution among her proposed projects.
Also honoured at the event was Onyii S. Okafor of Umuakwueze, Enugwu ukwu, Njikoka, L.G.A, an employee of Anambra Civil Service, who received a Club Service Award for serving the club in many capacities.
According to reports, Okafor, who joined Great Rotaract Club of Ekulu in 1985, apart from becoming its president in 1989/90, earned awards from virtually every club and attended many rotary conventions both within and outside the country.
