NIGERIA hosted senior athletic championship for the first time in Asaba. The tournament saw the Stephen Keshi stadium full with crowd who bought tickets for the sole purpose of witnessing athletes competing against each other.
Gumel Habu Ahmed who was technical head of the Local Organising Committee, said the event has helped Asaba financially. He stated that hotel bills, guest rooms and even shopping malls were being flooded by athletes, and fans and that made Asaba financially active.
AFN Chairman, Ibrahim Gusau, in a press conference also confirmed that Asaba gained financially, saying “a coach asked me where he could change his dollars quickly and I directed him to Shoprite, at times I see them going to shopping malls to get one or two things they need and all those money will circulate here in Asaba, so Asaba gained financially” he added.
AFN will start making arrangement for team Nigeria to get ready for the IAAF Continental Cup in Czech Republic later in the year.
