Mbanefoh commends up-coming musician for promoting Igbo culture through highlife

Highlife music maestro, Chijioke Mbanefoh, has commended an up-coming act, Dons Ifeanyi Frank, for his strides in promoting Igbo language and culture through his music which earned him the recent crown as the 2018 King of Highlife (South East/ South South in a recent award event.

Mbanefoh made the commendation on Sunday at the launch of an album, “Obago” which earned Mr. Dons the crown in the contest organized and sponsored by the Nigerian Breweries.
He encouraged others, who are into Highlife music to emulate Mr. Dons and strive to promote the peoples culture through their songs.

Earlier, the chairman of the occasion, Chief Kenneth Maduakor, praised Mr. Dons for making Ndigbo proud by not only winning the crown but also promoting the language through his songs.

Maduakor, who is also a major distributor with the Nigerian Breweries, disclosed at the event held at Nnewi that Dons was able to win other 700 aspirants drawn from the 11 states of the South East and South South to get the honour.

“After 12 weeks of crisscrossing different parts of the South East and South South regions in auditions and rehearsals, this young Nnewi based Highlife artiste, Dons Ifeanyi Frank emerged the grand prize winner in the 2018 edition of Highlife Feast organized by Nigeria Breweries (NBL) Plc.

“Dons, known with the stage name “Anyi Don”, beat five other finalists to clinch the crown and prize money of N2, 000,000 during the finals of the competition held at Polo Field, Enugu.
“Chairman, Panel of Judges, Veteran Highlife singer, Bright Chimezie announced the result and said that Dons from the assessment of the judges, beat other contestants judging from their vocal quality, talent display, audience appeal, sound delivery and general showbiz rating”, Maduakor said.

Speaking to newsmen at the function, the reigning Highlife King (South East/South South) Mr. Dons, thanked providence for the honoure which came with the reward of two million Naira; adding that the crown will be a stepping stone for greater things to come.
