EBONYI State police command, Monday, intercepted two buses carrying some persons with several arms and ammunitions suspected to be Fulani Herdsmen.
The Toyota buses were intercepted after Onu-Ebonyi bridge along Abakaliki-Ogoja Federal Highway, Izzi Local Government Area of the state.
The two buses are currently at the state police headquarters, Abakaliki.
The suspected herdsmen were intercepted by policemen on stop and search duty after the bridge along the federal highway.
An eyewitness told National Light that seven Fulani Herdsmen were in one of the intercepted buses.
“It was the Policemen on Safer Highway Operations that stopped the buses. In their normal stop and search operation, they found firearms and Army uniforms stocked in three big sacks.
“Also found were uncountable ammunitions, rifles which is above 16 in number including explosives, local charm, and fresh blood in 2 litres of gallon”, the eyewitness stated.
But at the time of filing in this report, Ebonyi State Police Command is yet to disclose where the bus took off from and its destination.
This came when the Spokesperson of the Nigerian Police, Ebonyi State Command, ASP Loveth Odah, pleaded for more time to ascertain the development.
Senior Adviser to Governor Dave Umahi on Internal Security, Dr. Kenneth Ugballa said he heard of the interception of the two buses and was coming to town to know details of the incident.
“Yes, l heard the story while l was away from the state but right now I am entering the state and in few minutes l will be at the command to find out the truth about the incident”, he said.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Loveth Odah said the command actually intercepted two buses carrying persons with arms.
