Anambra partners NEWMAP against erosion


ANAMBRA State Government is gearing up to continue the fight against widespread erosion and land despoliation in the State in collaboration with Nigeria Erosion and watershed Management project (NEWMAP).

This is contained in a press release signed by Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Communication Strategy, Ogbuefi Tony Nnachetta and made available to newsmen at in Awka.

The government said that working through the Anambra NEWMAP, the state has maintained close collaboration with the World Bank for funding of selected erosion sites this financial year.

It added that the governor recently visited the World Bank Country office in Zurich with intent to deepen the relationship with NEWMAP on the project.

The statement said, “a recent World Bank External Audit Report of NEWMAP in Nigerian indicates that Anambra is one of very few states that is significantly compliant with financial guidelines of the project and has no ineligible expenses or unretired advances.”

Gov. Willie Obiano administration is poised to keep these standards and get more sites recovered, the release added.
