ALL is now set to receive the remains of former Vice President of Nigeria, Dr. Alex Ekwueme in Enugu as the five governors of the South east zone of the country have concluded plans to give him a befitting burial.
National Light reporter, who visited venues where Ekwueme’s remains would be taken, saw that works were ongoing to ensure beautification, repairs and decoration of the arenas. Such places include; Akanu Ibiam airport, Michael Okpara Square, Good Shephard Church of the Anglican Communion and his residence in Independence Layout, Enugu.
Checks conducted by National Light also indicates that various organisations including Anambra indigenes Association in Enugu are preparing to ensure that their presence be felt and their impact noticed too as Ekwueme was one of their owns who was usually consulted on issues.
The body of the elder statesman would be interred on Friday, February 2, 2018 at his country home, Oko, Anambra State.
It would be recalled that Ekwueme was one of the founders of the defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN), the platform through which he became the vice president from 1979 to 1983.
He later formed a political association – G34 in 1998/99, which also expanded to G75 and as chairman of the association, he attracted other political associations which later metamorphosed into the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
