Suicide blasts kill 12, injure 48 in Maiduguri


A MID-NOON twin bomb blast at the popular Muna Garage market in Maidugri, the Borno state capital yesterday killed at least 12 people, and left 48 others with different degrees of fatal injuries.

Eyewitnesses and an emergency official say that casualty toll from the scene will continue to grow.

A trader, Ibrahim Usman, said that the attack happened at the rush hour of commercial activities  in the ever busy market, adding that the first bomber attacked inside the market while the other remained outside, killing only himself.

The head of rescue operations for the State Emergency Management Agency, Bello Dambatta, gave the identity of the suicide bombers as a female and  male attackers.

Muna Garage, the site of a camp for displaced people, has been attacked several times in the past few years by Boko Haram insurgents.

Boko Haram, which was formed in Maiduguri, has killed more than 20,000 people in its nine-year insurgency.
